Imagine our delight when, while shooting stunning singer Nicole Scherzinger for the cover of InStyle's August issue, the Pussycat Doll got the call that she would be promoted from host to judge on America's X Factor. Scratch that, imagine her delight! Not that we knew anything about it at the time: “You guys will hear all about it in a few days,” she told us when the phone became glued to her ear mid-shoot.

The news, of course, was that Nicole was to replace Cheryl Cole as a judge on Simon Cowell's show. And although she was thrilled at the opportunity, she was sorry to see her friend go. She told InStyle exclusively: “She's lovely. We really relate - we both find it very hard to say ‘No’ to the contestants; we both go at it from the same place; we both give heartfelt and constructive criticism."

She’s replaced Cheryl Cole as a judge on the U.S. X-Factor and has Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton as a boyfriend — and on top of that, Nicole Scherzinger has legs as lean and toned as a top athlete’s.

WORKOUT SECRETS 

Scherzinger works out with Beverly Hills-based personal trainer, Adam Ernster, who prescribes plenty of running and dancing as cardio activity to keep weight down, alongside a specific lower-body workout for the singer.

Exercises include squats performed with an exercise ball, lunges with kettlebells and single-leg squats.

TRY THIS  

One of the moves Adam Ernster prescribes is The Froggy:

1. Lie face down with your hips centered on a large exercise ball and your hands on the ground in front of you, elbows slightly bent.
2. Bend your knees and press the soles of feet together.
3. Lift your legs until thighs are parallel to the ground.
4. Lower legs and repeat ten to 12 times.

Chairman Jayson Johnson has announced that after weeks of talking with her agents they have come to an agreement she is also expected to have another role during Destiny as well, but it is not known to what else she will be doing.

Nicole Scherzinger believes she is a better judge than a host on the US version of ‘The X Factor’ because she can ”have a voice”.

The former Pussycat Dolls star replaced Cheryl Cole on the panel of the musical talent search show and is pleased she was moved from her original role as co-host alongside Steve Jones because she thinks she will be of more use to the show.

Asked about why Cheryl was sacked, Nicole said: “I have no idea. I think she made the decision ultimately for herself. I heard that maybe Girls Aloud are going back on tour.

“I did start out as a host and then they asked me to be a judge, I felt like I was better served as a judge, I could mentor and have a voice.”

Nicole - who turns 33 today (29.06.11) - loves working with fellow judges Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul on the show because their bond is as entertaining as watching the contestants.

She told Australian radio station 2Day FM’s Kyle and Jackie O show: “He’s a lot of fun, he vibrates at a certain level so everybody else vibrates at that level, if you allow him to he brings out the best in you.

“My most favourite part of these auditions, other than seeing the talent is watching Simon and Paula bicker back and forth, they’re brilliant together.”

It should have been the icing on the cake but instead Simon Cowell’s birthday surprise for Nicole Scherzinger took the biscuit.

The sardonic talent show don waited until the last minute of the second day of Seattle auditions to give his fellow judge her treats.

Today she turned 33, and was apparently so keen to celebrate the milestone with her new colleagues that she’s issued constant reminders.

The Pussycat Doll even emailed Simon last night, lest he forget.

She needn’t have worried, as the irascible judge was planning to have his fun with her.

After flowers from L.A Reid and a 500-strong rendition of Happy Birthday from the audience led by Paula Abdul, not to mention plenty of teasing from Simon,  he finally handed over his ‘gifts.’

First up was cake with a picture of him on it and just one candle, he then followed it up with a T-shirt also featuring his visage, with the additional detail ‘I heart’ detail on it.

Nicole smiled broadly as she held up the joke garment, but it seemed she was expecting something more from the billionaire.

So perhaps the state of the cake, which was photographed and uploaded to Simon’s Facebook account, betrayed her real feelings.

The image had been roundly defiled, all in the name of fun, we’re sure.

An insider confirmed that she was disappointed: ‘I think Nicole might have been expecting something fancy.

‘Simon’s face on a cake and T Shirt probably wasn’t exactly it, but no doubt she will get her own back when his birthday comes around!’

But Nicole still got quite a fuss, nonetheless.

No less than four groups asked to sing special versions of Happy Birthday in their bids to impress her.

It was an emotional day for the newest member of the panel, who admitted she’s still getting her head around her fantastic new job.

The singer, who was wearing a stunning silver mini-dress and had her hair swept up on her head, said: ‘I am so excited, I woke up this morning and its my birthday,  I have an amazing job working with three of the most wonderful people in the world that I have ever met… ‘

Before joking: ‘Well two actually – and then there’s Simon too!’

She reserved extra praise for Paula Abdul, Scherzinger gushed: ‘She is my idol and she wished me happy birthday today! ‘

‘And now I get to sit next to her, and stare at her in a kinda creepy way, I think, and just because I just love her so much’

One insider said: ‘Nicole has been reminding everyone for weeks that her birthday is coming up and she even emailed Simon last night to remind him so he wouldn’t forget when he arrived at work today, she as so cute’

But it was L.A. Reid who welcomed her with a big bunch of flowers, while Simon is keeping his big surprise under wraps.

Today is Scherzinger’s actual birthday but she already started celebrating in earnest at the weekend in Vegas.

The beauty, who is dating F1 champion Lewis Hamilton, enjoyed a daytime event and then partied the night away at TAO Nightclub at the Venetian hotel.

For the evening event she looked stunning in a glittering mini dress which she paired with taupe shoes and bag.

Her long raven hair in soft curls which cascaded over her shoulders.

In the day, Scherzinger was presented with an an amazing five-tiered cake decorated in gold and pink with her name in glittering letters perched on the side.

The cake was covered in musical symbols, a microphone and the second tier even featured a corset

But it probably could’ve benefited from Simon’s face.

During her radio and Birthday celebration interviews Nicole had briefly mentioned that she and her family will be visiting Greece after X Factor auditions are over.

And now we know that it is because she will attend the 13th Special Olympics World Summer Games which are being held in the Greek capital of Athens.

The Games opened on June 25 and will run to July 4 so Nicole should be there anytime soon because it is rumored that she will also host a party on the last day of the Games.

NICOLE Scherzinger has denied claims she’s set to marry boyfriend Lewis Hamilton.

The X-Factor judge and former Pussycat Dolls singer was reported to be engaged to her Brit boyracer after he “popped the question” on a luxury yacht last week.

“That’s ridiculous. That’s not at all true,” says Nicole of the rumors. “We’re just happy where we are and we’re just focusing on our jobs.”

Nicole recently revealed that Lewis criticizes her driving!

“He’s always telling me to have two hands on the wheel because I didn’t know that you have to — who does that?” she said.

“Then sometimes I’ll let my hand kind of swoop across the wheel, depending on how I’m feeling, but he says you have to have two hands, and do a full turn like that. He’s very safe.”
